Course Goals
- To learn basic human proportions and the concept of volume through the traditional eight-head structure and through figure drawing exercises. In order to break the rules, we have to learn them! :)
- To learn to create confident and fluid line work as opposed to making tentative "hairy" lines.
- To understand how story influences each decision we make as we illustrate our characters.
- To work on rendering work using traditional medium and then bringing a similar feel into the digital medium.
- To look at the work of several illustrators (mostly in the field of concept art) and understand what makes their work successful.
Examples: Glen Keane, Victoria Ying, Clio Chiang, Heather "Makani" Campbell, Jin Kim, Elsa Chang, Joodlez, etc.
- To complete several exercises based on the principals taught. Whoo! :>
